The benefits that pay for home care

Four programs cover most of the home-based care Veterans receive. Here’s who each is for — in plain terms.

VA Community Care

VA Community Care Network (CCN)

For enrolled Veterans whose care is authorized to a community provider.

When the VA can’t provide timely home care directly, it authorizes an in-network provider like Evergreen to deliver it — coordinated through Optum.

  • Skilled nursing & therapy at home
  • Typically no cost to the Veteran when authorized
  • We submit and track the authorization for you
VA Home & Community Based

Homemaker / Home Health Aide

For Veterans who need help with daily activities to stay safely at home.

A trained aide helps with bathing, dressing, mobility and meals — so a Veteran can remain at home instead of moving to a facility.

  • Personal & companion care hours
  • Cost based on the VA’s copay tier (often $0)
  • Pairs with skilled nursing when needed
VA Pension benefit

Aid & Attendance

For wartime Veterans & surviving spouses who need help with daily living.

A monthly amount added to a VA pension that helps pay for in-home care. It’s among the most under-claimed benefits Veterans have earned.

  • Tax-free monthly funds toward care
  • Available to qualifying surviving spouses
  • We help gather the documentation
VA caregiver support

Respite & caregiver programs

For family members providing care who need support and relief.

Short-term relief care and caregiver support so the family member doing the work can rest, work, or simply breathe.

  • Scheduled respite hours
  • Caregiver training & resources
  • Coordinated with your VA care team

Common questions

Straight answers, plainly put

Does the VA really pay for care at home?

Often, yes. Through Community Care and home-and-community-based programs, enrolled Veterans can receive skilled nursing and personal care at home — frequently at little or no cost when it’s authorized. The specifics depend on your enrollment and needs, which is exactly what we help you sort out.

Is Evergreen part of the VA?

No. Evergreen is an independent, veteran-owned home-care provider that participates in the VA Community Care Network. We are not the VA and our tools are informational — final eligibility and benefit decisions are made by the VA.

What will it cost me?

When care is authorized through VA Community Care, there is typically no out-of-pocket cost to the Veteran. Other programs depend on your VA copay tier. If you’re paying privately, we’ll give you clear pricing up front — no surprises.

Can a surviving spouse get help?

Possibly. The Aid & Attendance benefit can extend to qualifying surviving spouses of wartime Veterans. We can help you understand whether it may apply and gather the documentation.
